Is your PMI Scheme as good as Travel Insurance for Overseas Business Travel?
More than ever, UK employers are sending their staff on short-term assignments to danger 'hot spots' across the world. It is essential to understand the risks involved and to prepare those travelling overseas with the appropriate training and contacts in an emergency.
It is also important to check the cover available under your private medical insurance scheme for overseas travel to ensure that it is sufficient. Some (not all) UK based private medical schemes will provide cover up to UK levels of treatment for staff travelling abroad. However, these may not cover maternity requirements, drugs, dressings and GP visits, which is exactly what an employee working overseas may need. Many private medical insurance scheme providers exclude certain countries, particularly Afghanistan, Iraq and the Sudan.
For those employees on overseas assignments of less than 12 months a travel insurance policy could offer more extensive and appropriate cover than private medical insurance but it is important to understand exactly what individual policies provide.
Cartlidge Morland can undertake a full audit of your existing private medical insurance scheme to see if a travel insurance policy for those staff travelling overseas would be more appropriate. Contact us for a free, no obligation meeting.
